WASHINGTON – 3 March 2010 – ISNA leaders joined other members of the Muslim community and leaders of many other organizations to attend the opening prayer of the US House of Representatives on March 03, 2010 during the 111th legislative session, which was delivered by Duke University Muslim chaplain, Imam Abdullah Antepli. ISNA leaders also attended a reception the night before hosted by Duke University in honor of this historic occasion. In brief remarks during the reception Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed, the National Director of ISNA’s Office for Interfaith and Community Alliances stated that, "We thank Duke University for being at the forefront of promoting religious diversity and harmony on its campus and for hosting this reception." ISNA Secretary General, Safaa Zarzour, along with Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed, and ISNA’s Director of Community Outreach, Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi, were on hand to witness this historic event. Imam Abdullah Antepli, was the third Muslim religious leader ever to deliver the opening prayer of the Congress.
